Give nonstop

The Joy and Responsibility of Stewardship

In his booklet, “The Joy and Responsibility of Stewardship,” Paul J. Meyer (founder of Summers Mill) outlines several pillars of stewardship. One of those pillars is the idea of “giving nonstop.”

“A giver will always give, regardless of how much or how little he or she might have. That is because giving, at its core, is an attitude of the heart.” - Paul J. Meyer

Why give?

Scripture says, “The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” (Psalm 24:1) and “Every good and perfect gift is from above” (James 1:17).

The Bible teaches that everything belongs to God, and we’re stewards at best… never owners.

“We cannot honor God or fully achieve any goal when we believe we are the owners.” - Paul J. Meyer

What should we give?

Giving is about more than money. In my church growing up, every time a new member would join, the pastor would ask the person if they would support the church with their time, talents, gifts, and service. They would always answer “I will,” and it was a great reminder to the rest of the members of the church that we had made a similar commitment.

Perhaps this is the reminder you needed today.

Don’t forget to give God your time, your talents, your gifts, and your service. He owns it all anyway.
